Tesla delivery day checklist: what to inspect and what to bring

A Tesla delivery day checklist: what to finish in the app beforehand, what to bring, and what to inspect before you drive away.

A Tesla delivery day checklist helps you leave with the car you paid for. Most of the paperwork happens in the Tesla app before the day, so delivery day is mainly about inspecting the car carefully before you accept it.

Before delivery day (in the Tesla app)

  • Confirm your registration details and delivery location. Tesla needs these before it can move forward.
  • Choose your payment method and enter trade-in details early.
  • Upload proof of insurance once the car has a VIN.
  • Schedule your appointment when the app tells you it's open. You can reschedule in the app, but not within 48 hours of the appointment.
  • Sign any agreements that appear. For a delivery to your home by carrier, pay and sign before the car ships.

What to bring

  • Your phone, with the Tesla app signed in and charged. You unlock the car with the app.
  • Your driver's license. Ask your delivery advisor if they need anything else.
  • Final payment details, if you're collecting at a Tesla location.
  • Trade-in title, keys and paperwork, if you have a trade-in.
  • Good light: arrive in daylight if you can, or bring a small flashlight.

What to inspect

  • Paperwork: the VIN on the car matches your agreement, and the trim, paint, wheels and options match your order.
  • Body and paint: walk around slowly. Look for chips, scratches, dents and uneven panel gaps.
  • Glass and lights: check the windshield and roof glass for chips, and test the headlights, turn signals and brake lights.
  • Wheels and tires: look for curb rash and check that pressures show on the touchscreen.
  • Interior: seats, headliner, trim and screens free of marks; seat heaters, windows and climate working.
  • Charging: open the charge port and check the included items you were promised.
  • Photos: take a full set of walk-around photos before you leave.

Our free Tesla delivery checklist covers every item in detail, and you can tick it off on your phone or print.

Good to know

  • If you find a problem, photograph it and ask the delivery advisor to note it before you accept the car.
  • Issues noticed later can be raised as a service request in the Tesla app.
  • Features vary by model and year, so check your owner's manual.
