How to check your Tesla tire pressure

PSI

Find the right pressure, check it properly, and understand the tire warning light.

Correct tire pressure helps range, safety and tire life. Here is how to find the right number and check it.

Find the recommended pressure

Open the driver door and look at the Tire and Loading Information label on the center pillar. The touchscreen also shows the recommended cold pressures under Controls, then Service. Use the label's number, even if it differs from the number on the tire's sidewall. If you tow, use the towing section of your owner's manual instead.

Check it correctly

  1. Check when the tires are cold. Tesla says that means the car has been parked for more than three hours.
  2. Remove the valve cap and press an accurate gauge onto the valve.
  3. Add air, or release it by pressing the metal pin in the center of the valve.
  4. Re-check, then replace the cap.

Driving about one mile warms the tires enough to change the reading. Warm tires read higher, so do not let air out to match the cold number.

See pressures on the screen and app

Each tire's pressure shows on the car picture on the touchscreen, with the time it was measured. Choose Bar or PSI under Controls, Display, Tire Pressure. You can also see pressures in the Tesla app. Values may take a short drive to appear.

The warning light

  • The tire pressure light comes on when one or more tires is too low or too high.
  • After you fix the pressure, the light stays on until you drive faster than 15 mph (25 km/h) for a short time.
  • If the light flashes for one minute when the car powers on, the system has detected a fault.
  • Pressure drops about 1 PSI for every 10°F (6°C) drop in outside temperature, so check more often in cold weather.
